Hartford workers receive paid sick leave under Connecticut General Statutes section 31-57r and paid family medical leave funded by employee payroll contributions under CGS section 31-49e, both administered statewide.
Connecticut General Statutes section 31-57r, the Connecticut Paid Sick Leave law, requires service workers at employers with 50 or more employees to accrue one hour of paid sick leave per 40 hours worked, capped at 40 hours annually. Connecticut was the first state to enact paid sick leave in 2011. Separately, the Connecticut Paid Family and Medical Leave Act under CGS section 31-49e funds up to 12 weeks of paid leave through a 0.5 percent employee payroll contribution managed by the CT Paid Leave Authority. Both laws preempt municipal paid leave ordinances. Hartford employers must post required notices and respond to authority requests for verification of covered absences and contribution remittances.
Denying accrued sick leave, retaliation for use, no employee notice posted, missing payroll contribution, miscategorizing covered worker, ignoring CT Paid Leave determination.
