Marana, AZ Fence Regulations: Fence Requirements (2026)

Fence requirements in Marana are established under Land Development Code Title 17. In standard residential zones, fences may be up to 6 feet in rear and side yards and 3 feet in front yards. The code requires that all screen walls enclosing individual side and rear lots in subdivisions be uniform throughout the development and incorporate color, contrasting materials, or design elements. Uncolored grey concrete block is specifically prohibited for perimeter walls. View fencing using wrought iron or similar open materials is required in certain locations backing onto washes, natural open space, or common areas to preserve desert views and wildlife corridors. Corner lots and lots adjacent to arterial streets may have additional visibility triangle requirements that limit fence height near intersections. Pool barriers must comply with ARS 36-1681, requiring a minimum 5-foot barrier height, self-closing and self-latching gates with the latch at 54 inches minimum, and no more than 4-inch gaps. Marana Building Safety does not require a separate fence permit for standard residential fences under 6 feet that do not require a footing, but HOA architectural approval is required in all master-planned communities before installation.
