City Code Section 10-730 prohibits fences, walls, structures, trees, shrubs, vegetation, or other obstructions in any yard that pose a danger to traffic by obscuring the view from any street or roadway.
Section 10-730 enforces a traffic visibility triangle: at street corners, intersections, and driveway openings, no fence, wall, hedge, or planting may obscure the line of sight needed for safe vehicle operation. The standard sight triangle measures 25-30 feet on each leg from the corner. The rule applies even to compliant-height fences if their location blocks visibility. Code enforcement responds to specific complaints and may require corner clearance or vegetation trimming. Fences screening recreational equipment under Sec. 10-729 must be at least 6 feet to fully obscure the equipment from public view.
A sight-triangle obstruction is a misdemeanor with fines up to $1,000 and requires immediate corrective action - trimming, removal, or relocation of the obstruction.
