Land Development Code section 5.02.02 governs fences in the unincorporated county. Rear and side property-line fences in residential zones may be up to 8 feet tall. A fence within the front setback may not exceed 4 feet, except 14-gauge galvanized welded-wire chain-link and 3-inch-picket black metal fences, which may reach 5 feet. Nothing over sight-line height may sit within 20 feet of a street intersection. Navarre Beach and the Bagdad Historic Overlay have stricter limits. Cities of Milton, Gulf Breeze and Jay apply their own codes.
Fences violating the LDC are a code-enforcement matter; the Code Enforcement Board can order removal or modification and impose daily fines until the fence is brought into compliance.
