California Health & Safety Code §115920-115929 requires pool barriers statewide, including in Tuolumne County. All pools must have at least a 60-inch (5 ft) barrier with self-closing, self-latching gates and additional safety features.
Tuolumne County enforces the California Swimming Pool Safety Act (Health & Safety Code §115920-115929) for all residential pools and spas. Pools built after January 1, 2007 must have at least two of seven safety features: isolation fencing, approved safety cover, exit alarms on doors, self-latching devices, pool alarm, removable mesh fencing, or other approved devices. All pool barriers must be a minimum of 60 inches (5 feet) high with no climbable features. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with latches at least 54 inches high. The Building Department inspects pool barriers as part of the pool permit process.
Pool safety violation: building code enforcement action, stop work order, or notice of violation. Real estate disclosure required at property sale.
