Small backyard recreational fires and campfires for cooking are allowed anytime without a permit if monitored, with extinguishment nearby and only approved materials burned. During a county burn ban, wood fires are prohibited but gas devices remain allowed if attended.
West Manatee Fire Rescue rules permit two backyard fire types without a permit: a campfire 'for outdoor noncommercial food preparation, or on cold days for warming of outdoor workers,' and 'a small recreational outdoor fire β¦ at any time provided it is monitored,' with extinguishment nearby and only approved (clean vegetative) materials. Burning trash, plastics, or construction debris is never allowed. When the county enacts a drought burn ban, campfires and open burning are prohibited, but LP-gas devices are exempt if attended by a responsible adult at all times.
Unattended fires, burning prohibited materials, or lighting a wood fire during a burn ban can result in code-enforcement citations and fire-district enforcement.
