Collier County follows Florida's LP Gas law and NFPA 58, adopted into the Florida Fire Prevention Code. Small grill cylinders of 40 pounds or less for outdoor equipment are exempt from dealer rules, but placement and separation distances follow NFPA 58.
Florida Statutes Chapter 527 regulates liquefied petroleum (LP) gas and defines propane by reference to NFPA 58, the LP Gas Code adopted into the Florida Fire Prevention Code. Cylinders of 40 pounds or less of propane capacity used with outdoor equipment not connected to a structure's permanent piping are exempt from dealer licensing rules. NFPA 58 governs how tanks are placed and stored, including minimum separation distances (per the 2011 edition) between a tank and buildings, property lines, other tanks, and ignition sources. Store portable cylinders upright, outdoors, in a ventilated area away from heat—never inside a home or garage.
Improper LP-gas storage or installation violating NFPA 58 and the Florida Fire Prevention Code is enforced by the fire marshal and county code enforcement.
