Arizona adopts NFPA 58 through the State Fire Marshal, regulating LP-gas container size, placement setbacks, and installation statewide for residential and commercial propane storage.
Under A.R.S. 37-1383 and the Arizona State Fire Marshal's adopted codes, propane (LP-gas) storage and dispensing must comply with NFPA 58 Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code. Residential containers up to 125 gallons may be placed at minimum five feet from buildings and property lines; larger containers require 10 to 25 foot setbacks. Cylinders must be stored upright in ventilated areas, and indoor storage above 1 pound is generally prohibited.
Improper storage may result in code violations, fines through local fire authorities, and civil liability for any resulting fire or explosion.
