PA UCC requires working smoke alarms in all dwelling units. Required outside each sleeping area, inside each bedroom, and on every floor including basement.
Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code (Act 45 of 1999) adopts International Residential Code smoke alarm requirements. All new construction requires hardwired interconnected alarms with battery backup. Existing homes must have working battery or hardwired alarms. Landlords must provide functional alarms at lease start per PA Landlord-Tenant Act.
