Local ordinances cannot create gun-free zones beyond statutory prohibitions such as schools, courthouses, polling places, and bars. Private property owners and certain government buildings retain authority to post against carry. Cities may not enforce concealed carry bans against persons holding a Missouri or recognized out-of-state permit, even when restricting open carry.
Carrying in statutorily prohibited locations is a misdemeanor or felony depending on circumstances. Local rules conflicting with state concealed carry law are void and exposed to civil challenge under RSMo 21.750.
