Allen requires a Home Occupation registration through the Community Development Dept. No external signage, no retail foot traffic, no employees outside household, and use must be clearly incidental to residential use.
Allen Land Development Code Section 4.20.3 lists home occupation standards: business confined to interior of dwelling (no garage conversion unless permitted), no more than 25 percent of floor area used, no storage of hazardous materials, no on-site sales to walk-in customers, and deliveries limited to standard parcel services. Contractors, tattoo parlors, auto repair, and kennels are explicitly prohibited as home occupations. Registration fee is modest and renewable annually with the business tax certificate. Collin County property appraisal records may be cross-checked against registered uses.
Operating without registration: citation up to 500 dollars under Allen Code of Ordinances general penalty. Repeated violations can lead to zoning enforcement action and forced cessation.
