Hamilton County allows home occupations as an accessory use without a separate license if they meet the zoning standards: only residents may work there, no more than 25% of the dwelling's floor area is used, no on-site sales, and no outside evidence of the business.
The Hamilton County Zoning Regulations define a home occupation with strict conditions: no persons other than those residing on the premises may be engaged in it; the use must be clearly incidental and subordinate to residential use, occupying no more than 25% of the dwelling's floor area; there must be no change in the building's outside appearance; no sales of products or commodities on the premises; no traffic beyond normal residential levels with off-street parking; and no equipment producing noise, vibration, glare, fumes, odors, or electrical interference detectable off the lot.
A home occupation exceeding these limits loses its permitted-use status and becomes a zoning violation, subject to enforcement notices, cease-use orders, and fines.
