Boise requires weeds and grass to be kept under 10 inches tall on all residential and commercial parcels. The Boise Code Enforcement Division handles complaints and can abate overgrown lots with cost recovery.
Boise City Code Title 5, Chapter 7 declares weeds, grass, or brush exceeding 10 inches a public nuisance on any lot within city limits. Code Enforcement issues a written notice giving the owner 10 days to cut and remove. If the owner fails to comply, the city contracts abatement and places a lien on the property for costs plus a $100 administrative fee. Native landscaping, xeriscape, and approved water-wise plantings are exempt when part of a documented landscape plan. Idaho Code Section 22-2407 (noxious weeds) also applies to listed species like puncturevine and Canada thistle which must be controlled regardless of height.
First notice: 10 days to abate. Failure: city mowing at $250-$500 plus $100 admin fee and lien.
