For the 2026 season, Con Fire set abatement deadlines of May 15 for East County and June 1 for Central and West County. After the deadline, properties may be inspected, and if the owner has not complied, the County or Fire District may abate the hazard at the owner's expense and place the costs as a lien on the property.
Failure to abate by the deadline can result in an administrative citation, recovery of the actual abatement costs by the County/Fire District, plus an administrative fee added as a special assessment / lien against the parcel. Repeated violations may be charged as infractions or misdemeanors under County Code Title 1.
