There is no county-wide ordinance requiring a permit to prune trees on private, unincorporated land. However, the Nuisance Ordinance (Title 5, Chapter 9) treats vegetation that obstructs sight at intersections, driveways, lanes or highways as a public nuisance, so overgrown limbs blocking visibility must be cut back. Trees encroaching on a public road or right-of-way fall under the highway district maintaining that road (Ada County Highway District). Trees inside cities such as Boise, Meridian or Eagle are governed by each city's tree and street-tree rules.
Sight-obstructing vegetation is abatable as a nuisance after notice; the county may cut it and charge the property owner, with unpaid costs becoming a lien.
