Tarrant County has no tree trimming ordinance for unincorporated areas. The Texas Forest Service recommends avoiding oak pruning February through June to prevent oak wilt, a fatal fungal disease.
Unincorporated Tarrant County does not regulate tree trimming or require permits to prune trees on private property. There is no county arborist or enforcement of pruning seasons. However, Tarrant County is within the oak wilt endemic zone, and the Texas A and M Forest Service recommends no oak pruning from February through June when the Nitidulid beetle is actively spreading the Ceratocystis fagacearum fungus. Pruning cuts during this period must be immediately painted with latex or wound paint to prevent infection. Trees along Tarrant County roads within the right-of-way may be trimmed by Transportation Services for sight-distance and road clearance. Oncor utility line clearance follows Texas Public Utility Commission rules. HOA deed restrictions may require tree maintenance for appearance.
