Mansfield requires property owners to trim trees that obstruct sidewalks, streets, or visibility triangles. Street trees and right-of-way trees may require coordination with Public Works before significant work.
The City of Mansfield requires property owners to maintain trees and vegetation so that they do not obstruct public right-of-way, sidewalks, streets, traffic signs, or sight distance at intersections. Minimum clearance standards require 14 feet of vertical clearance over streets and 8 feet over sidewalks. Branches overhanging sidewalks, streets, alleys, or adjacent properties must be trimmed to prevent hazards, and trees must not block street lights, traffic signals, or stop signs. Corner lot sight visibility triangles must remain clear of obstructions between 3 and 8 feet in height so drivers can see oncoming traffic. Trees within the public right-of-way (typically street trees in the parkway strip) are subject to city oversight; significant pruning or removal of right-of-way trees should be coordinated with Public Works. Property owners are responsible for trimming trees on their property even if the branches overhang neighboring property. Contact Code Enforcement at (817) 276-4200 for visibility complaints or Public Works for right-of-way tree questions.
Failure to trim trees obstructing public right-of-way after notice can result in city trimming with costs assessed to the property owner. Blocked sight lines at intersections, traffic signs, or street lights may trigger expedited enforcement for safety reasons.
