Water restrictions in Medfield, MA — also called the watering schedule, outdoor irrigation rules, or drought ordinance — set which days and hours you can run sprinklers or irrigation.
Medfield's Water Conservation bylaw (Town Bylaws / eCode360 Ch. on Water Conservation) authorizes the Select Board to declare a state of water-supply conservation no later than the first Monday in June through, at the earliest, the second Monday in September each year. When in effect, outside watering is prohibited between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM and certain non-essential uses are banned.
The Town of Medfield adopted the bylaw under its police powers to protect public health, safety and welfare and to implement its authority to regulate water use. The Select Board acts on recommendation of the Board of Water and Sewerage. When elevated restrictions are in place, mandatory restrictions cover irrigation of lawns via sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems; washing of vehicles (except in a commercial car wash or as necessary for operator safety); and washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks except for surface treatments. No outside watering may take place between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Persons using private wells for lawn irrigation must prominently display 'PRIVATE WELL WATER IN USE' signs. Call the Medfield Water Department at 508-906-3004 for current status.
First violation within a calendar year is a written warning, second violation is a $50 fine, and every violation thereafter carries a $200 fine, per the town's water-conservation bylaw.
