Prince George's County caps noise from industrial-zoned property at 75 dBA both day and night at the receiving property. Sound crossing from an industrial area into a residential area must meet the lower residential limit.
Under County Code § 19-122(a), the maximum allowable noise level for industrial receiving land use is 75 dBA during both day and night. Commercial areas are held to 67 dBA day and 62 dBA night. Critically, sound crossing between residential and non-residential areas must not exceed the residential limit — so an industrial operation whose noise reaches a nearby home is measured against the 65 dBA day / 55 dBA night residential cap, not the higher industrial figure. Prominent tones and impulsive noise (such as punch presses or pile drivers) must be 5 dBA below the applicable level, and beyond-property-line vibration a person can feel is also prohibited. Blasting for demolition, mining, or quarrying is exempt during daytime only.
Industrial noise or vibration exceeding the limits can result in a civil citation or misdemeanor charge, up to $1,000 for a first offense and $1,500 for subsequent offenses, each day a separate violation.
