Industrial and commercial noise is capped by Sec. 20-102(f) Table 1, which sets higher permissible decibel levels for those land-use categories than for residential, measured at the receiving property's boundary. River-activity noise is expressly covered.
Section 20-102(f) applies its Table 1 sound limits to all receiving land-use categories, including commercial and industrial, so an industrial operation cannot exceed the limit set for the property receiving the sound, measured at or beyond that property's boundary. A 2019 amendment expressly extended the ordinance to noise emanating from river activities within the parish's territorial limits, including navigable waters. Commercial and industrial categories carry higher permissible levels than residential noise-sensitive areas. This governs the unincorporated parish, including Metairie; incorporated cities set their own industrial-noise rules.
Industrial sources exceeding their Table 1 limit at the receiving property line are subject to Sec. 20-102 enforcement and fines.
