Commercial property noise limits set locally. Troy sets 65 dBA daytime and 55 dBA nighttime at residential property lines abutting commercial zones. Loading dock noise restricted overnight.
Rensselaer County has no countywide commercial noise code; regulation is municipal. City of Troy Code Chapter 225 (Noise) establishes decibel-based limits measured at the boundary of any residential use, with 65 dBA permitted between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. and 55 dBA between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Loading docks, refuse collection, and mechanical equipment abutting residential districts are restricted outside the daytime window. East Greenbush, North Greenbush, and Schodack rely on nuisance-based standards in their town zoning codes that prohibit 'unreasonably loud, disturbing, or unnecessary noise.' HVAC, refrigeration condensers, and generators are measured at the property line under the same thresholds.
Troy Code 225-10: first offense up to $250 fine; second within 12 months up to $500; third or continuing violation up to $1,000 and/or 15 days jail. Each day of violation constitutes a separate offense.
