Outdoor music at homes, restaurants, and event venues in El Paso is regulated by Chapter 9.40 and the special events code.
Residential outdoor music such as backyard mariachi or weekend gatherings is permitted during the daytime provided it stays below 55 dB(A) at the neighbor property line. After 10:00 PM the 50 dB(A) nighttime limit applies. Restaurants and bars along Mesa Street, Kern Place, and the Cincinnati Entertainment District must obtain an amplified sound permit and typically cease outdoor music at 10:00 PM Sunday through Thursday and 11:00 PM Friday and Saturday. The Downtown Arts District has slightly later cutoffs during approved festivals. Block parties require a special event permit through the Office of Special Events.
Unpermitted outdoor amplified music: $100 to $500 first offense, up to $2,000 for repeats. Permits may be suspended or revoked for repeat offenders.
