Outdoor music must meet the same receiving-property decibel limits (70 dB(A) day / 60 dB(A) night for residential neighbors). Community events with non-amplified crowd noise are exempt, and amplified event sound is allowed only under a valid county special-events permit.
Outdoor music, whether at a home, venue, or gathering, is measured against the Sec. 14-171(a) limits at the neighboring receiving property. Two exemptions matter for events: Sec. 14-172(3) exempts non-amplified crowd noise from parades and community events, and Sec. 14-172(4) exempts amplified sound produced under a valid county special-events permit or other county authorization. Without that permit, amplified outdoor music at night must stay under 60 dB(A) at a residential property line. Enforcement uses a calibrated A-weighted meter over a minimum five-minute period. Applies to unincorporated Santa Rosa County only.
Unpermitted outdoor music over the limits is a $100 noise-level violation, doubling then tripling for repeats. Officers warn first and allow a reasonable time (about 10 minutes) to lower the volume before citing.
