Outdoor music limits in Washtenaw County are municipal. Ann Arbor Chapter 119, Section 9:363(4), prohibits operating or playing any radio, television, phonograph, drum or musical instrument between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. when clearly audible beyond the property line. Section 9:365(7) allows playing or practicing a single, unamplified instrument between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. for up to one hour a day, provided it stays under 67 dB(A) at the property line. All outdoor music must also respect the Section 9:364 dB(A) caps. Ypsilanti and townships set separate limits.
Civil infraction: $50-$500 plus costs, escalating to $100 (second) and $200 (third) within two years; up to 240 hours community service.
