Washtenaw County does not zone or set industrial-noise limits; cities and townships do. Ann Arbor caps noise received at commercial (non-residential) property at 71 dB(A) daytime and 61 dB(A) overnight, with no separate industrial tier.
Under the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act (MCL 125.3101), Washtenaw's cities and townships zone their own land, so there is no countywide industrial-noise standard. Ann Arbor Chapter 119, Section 9:364, groups all non-residential use as "Commercial" and caps property-line noise received there at 71 dB(A) from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and 61 dB(A) overnight; where noise crosses into residential property, the lower 61/55 dB(A) residential limits apply. There is no separate, higher industrial category. Operators can seek a temporary exemption from the City Administrator under Section 9:367. Townships enforce their own standards through the Sheriff.
Civil infraction: $50-$500 plus costs, escalating to $100 (second) and $200 (third) within two years; up to 240 hours community service.
