Unincorporated Lake County's UDO sets no numeric residential light-trespass (foot-candle) limit. Its enforceable trespass-type controls are narrow: solar-farm lighting must be shielded and aimed downward, home occupations may not add commercial-like exterior lighting, and glare mitigation is a screening goal. Persistent glare onto a neighbor is generally a nuisance matter.
The Lake County UDO does not fix a maximum light level at the property line for homes. Section 154-8-060 requires solar-farm operational lighting to be 'shielded away from nonparticipating adjacent properties and positioned downward... to minimize light emission onto adjacent properties.' The home-occupation standard (154-9-090.F.10) bars adding commercial-like exterior lighting that alters a lot's residential character, and the landscaping/screening article lists reducing 'the impacts of noise and glare' among its purposes (154-14-010.C). Beyond these, light spilling onto a neighbor is addressed as a nuisance rather than by a specific trespass metric, and incorporated municipalities set their own lighting codes for most of the county.
Where the UDO's lighting standards apply, violations follow the 15-day cure notice and citation penalties up to $2,500 (first) and $7,500 (subsequent) under IC 36-1-3-8; broader glare disputes may be pursued as nuisance.
