The county's only light-trespass standard applies inside the Airport Overlay District, where fixtures must not cause excessive glare or light trespass; single-family and agricultural uses are exempt. For ordinary homes, only general nuisance glare provisions apply. Cities set their own rules.
In the Airport Overlay (AO-1) District, "Outdoor lighting fixtures shall be placed so as to not cause excessive glare or light trespass" (Sec. 40-4-120(A)(2)), and temporary lights need a special use permit shown not to create "excessive glare, sky glow, or light trespass" (Sec. 40-4-120(D)). Single-family and agricultural uses are exempt (Sec. 40-4-120(B)). Outside the overlay the Zoning Ordinance has no dedicated light-trespass section, though nuisance provisions restrict "unreasonable reflection or direct glare" crossing property lines. Municipal codes may add stricter neighbor-glare rules within city limits.
Non-exempt fixtures causing glare or trespass in the AO-1 District, or glare rising to a nuisance elsewhere, can be ordered corrected with penalties.
