Manatee County does not let residents paint their own curbs; curb and pavement markings that restrict parking are official traffic-control devices installed by the county to FDOT standards, and painting or altering them is unauthorized (Code 2-22).
There is no Manatee County ordinance authorizing property owners to paint address numbers or no-parking markings on public curbs. Under Code Chapter 2-22, parking restrictions on county roads and lots are established only by the county through official traffic-control devices and signs conforming to Florida Department of Transportation specifications (Sec. 2-22-26). Obedience to official traffic-control devices is required by FS 316.074. Because the curb and right-of-way are public, a resident who paints a curb red or adds unofficial markings is placing an unauthorized device; only the county may create enforceable curb parking restrictions. Any private no-parking marking has no legal effect.
Unauthorized markings are unenforceable; interfering with official traffic-control devices is addressed under Chapter 2-22 and Ch. 316, F.S.
