Delaware County does not paint or regulate curb markings on public streets. Colored curb markings (no-parking, fire zones, loading) are established by municipal ordinance and painted by each borough, township, or city. Residents may not paint public curbs themselves.
Curb-marking colors and their meanings on public streets are municipal in Pennsylvania. Under the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code (75 Pa.C.S.), local authorities regulate stopping, standing, and parking and may mark curbs for no-parking, fire lanes, and loading areas; markings must be backed by a local ordinance and, where required, official signs. Painting or altering a public curb yourself is not permitted — that is done by the municipality's public-works crew. Delaware County marks curbs only on its own property, such as fire lanes and accessible spaces in park lots. If a marking near your home is faded, contact your municipal public-works or police department; do not repaint the curb, because unauthorized markings are unenforceable and may themselves be a violation.
Parking against a properly marked and posted curb is a local parking violation with fines set by the municipality, and vehicles may be towed. Painting or defacing a public curb without authorization can itself be cited under local ordinance.
