Mariposa County Code 10.08.110, 'Snow Removal—Parking Restricted,' prohibits parking on the pavement or road shoulder during snow removal. Above 2,500 ft elevation, no vehicle may park on signed county roads during a 'snow removal condition' (3+ inches of snow). Vehicles are strictly enforced and will be towed.
This Sierra Nevada county receives significant snow in its high country (Fish Camp, Wawona, Greeley Hill, Yosemite West), and the County of Mariposa actively regulates snow-season parking. Mariposa County Code Section 10.08.110, 'Snow Removal—Parking Restricted,' prohibits parking on the pavement or road shoulder during snow removal operations. The county's Snow Removal Policy (Resolution RES-2023-627, approved Nov. 21, 2023) implements this: in areas above an elevation of 2,500 feet, no person shall park any vehicle on a county-maintained public road, highway, or right-of-way that is posted with no-stopping/no-parking signs during the period a 'snow removal condition' exists. A 'snow removal condition' is defined as the accumulation or potential accumulation of three (3) or more inches of snow. Additional items—basketball hoops, wood splitters, trash bins, construction materials, and trailers—must also be cleared from the right-of-way for the duration of the condition. The policy warns that parking restrictions are 'strictly enforced; your vehicle will be towed,' and the county assumes no liability for damage to vehicles left in the right-of-way during snow operations. A warning sticker may be affixed to the vehicle or residence. The county maintains 560+ miles of road and prioritizes plowing; Caltrans handles state routes (SR 140, 120, 132, 41, 49).
Vehicles parked on the pavement, shoulder, or signed right-of-way during a snow-removal condition (3+ inches, above 2,500 ft) are towed at the owner's expense; the county assumes no liability for tow damage. A warning sticker may be applied. Pushing or blowing driveway snow into the roadway is also described as illegal.
