Unincorporated Nevada County prohibits parking in posted no-parking zones on specific county roads and bans any parking that obstructs snow removal operations, with fines and towing for violations.
Nevada County Code Title 16, Chapter 3 governs parking on county roads in the unincorporated area. Section 16.03.090 prohibits parking at any time on designated segments of Soda Springs Road, Dog Bar Road, Newtown Road, Pleasant Valley Road at South Yuba State Park, Purdon Road at Purdon Bridge, and North Bloomfield-Graniteville Road at Edwards Crossing Bridge, and restricts school-day parking on Via Vista. Section 16.03.280 bars parking in any designated no-parking zone or where curbs are painted red, enforced by the Sheriff or California Highway Patrol under Cal. Veh. Code Sections 40200-40230. During winter, Section 16.03.150 (formerly Sec. G-IV 3.A.14) makes it unlawful to park or leave any vehicle in the right-of-way of any county road in a manner that obstructs, hinders, or delays snow removal operations, and Section 16.03.160 authorizes the county to tow such vehicles at the owner's expense under Cal. Veh. Code Section 22654.
Parking during snow removal is punishable under Section 16.03.170 by a fine of $10 to $250, or 5 to 30 days in county jail, or both, plus towing and storage costs charged to the registered owner. Other parking violations are processed as civil parking penalties under Cal. Veh. Code Sections 40200-40230, and Section 16.03.310 authorizes tow-away with a lien for towing and storage.
