Garland requires fence permits for new construction, changes in height or material, corner lots, and pool fences. Apply to Building Inspections before work begins.
Under Garland Development Code Article X (Fences), no person may build a fence without first obtaining a permit from the Building Inspections Department. Permit triggers include installing a fence where none existed, replacing on a corner lot, any pool enclosure fence, or changing the height, location, or materials of an existing fence. Applications must include a site plan showing property lines, fence location, materials, and height. Max residential height is 8 feet rear/side and 3.5 feet front yard. Permit fees apply per the City fee schedule.
Installing a fence without a required permit is a Development Code violation. Fences must be corrected or removed and an after-the-fact permit obtained. Class C citation available.
