Richardson requires fence permits for any fence over 2.5 feet per Sec. 6-201. Application requires plans and specifications. Post-construction inspection is mandatory. Contact Building Inspection at 972-744-4174.
Under Section 6-201, all fences over 2.5 feet in height require a permit from the Building Inspection Department before construction begins. Applications must include adequate plans and specifications as determined by the chief building official. After construction, the fence must be inspected and approved. The building official issues a card of acceptance upon compliance. Permit fees are set in the Master Fee Schedule (Appendix B). Pool enclosure fences require a separate fence permit and must comply with Sec. 6-212 pool barrier standards. Temporary construction site fencing is addressed under Sec. 6-211.
Building a fence without a permit is a code violation. The fence must be inspected and approved or it may need to be removed.
