Junked vehicles that are wrecked, dismantled, or inoperable without current registration or safety inspection may not be kept in public view. Richardson Code Enforcement actively enforces these provisions under Chapter 14 (Nuisances).
Richardson's nuisance ordinance (Chapter 14) and general provisions prohibit junked vehicles from being kept in public view. A junked vehicle is defined as one that is wrecked, dismantled, or inoperable and does not have a current registration or safety inspection sticker. Such vehicles may not be parked on the street, in front yards, or anywhere visible from public property. The city provides notice and a compliance period before ordering removal. Vehicles may be towed and impounded by the city if not removed. This applies to both occupied and vacant properties.
Failure to remove a junked vehicle after notice may result in the city ordering removal at the owner's expense. Fines up to $2,000 per day for continued violations.
