Permits, Signs & Events

Signs, events, filming, and garage sales are all the law of borrowed space. A sign borrows the visual field, and after Reed v. Town of Gilbert it is regulated by size and placement, never by message. An event borrows the street, through permits scaled to crowd and impact. A film shoot borrows both, and a garage sale borrows a weekend, under the lightest rules of the lot.

Everything turns on thresholds. Below them, no one needs to know your plans; above them, applications, insurance, and lead times begin. Finding the line, in square feet, headcount, or days, is the whole game.
