Under Clark County Code Title 22 (Building Code), fences and walls 6 feet or less in height are exempt from building permits. Fences exceeding 6 feet require a building permit with plans showing structural adequacy. Clark County Title 30 (Unified Development Code) Section 30.64 governs accessory structures including fences. Standard allowances in residential zones include: up to 6 feet for side and rear yard fences, and typically 3–4 feet for front yard fences (varies by zone). Masonry block walls are extremely common in the Las Vegas Valley, far more so than in most other metro areas, due to the region's wind conditions, lack of moisture (which would degrade wood), and HOA preferences. Many master-planned communities require block walls rather than wood fences. Privacy fences for pools must comply with Clark County swimming pool barrier requirements — at minimum 5 feet tall with self-closing, self-latching gates and no openings large enough for a 4-inch sphere to pass through. In desert areas, block walls also serve as wind barriers, reducing dust intrusion and protecting landscaping. Clark County requires fences not to obstruct sight-line triangles at street intersections for traffic safety. Corner lot fences in front-side yards may have additional height restrictions.
