Boulder City enforces NRS 461A and the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code requiring barriers at least 5 feet tall around pools deeper than 18 inches.
Under Nevada Revised Statutes 461A and the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code adopted by Boulder City, all private residential swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs containing water deeper than 18 inches must be enclosed by a barrier at least 5 feet tall. Gates must be self closing and self latching with the latch release located at least 54 inches above the ground on the pool side. Openings in the barrier cannot allow passage of a 4 inch sphere. Where a dwelling forms part of the barrier, doors leading to the pool must have alarms or the pool must have a safety cover or power cover. Given Boulder City hot summers near Lake Mead, pool safety is a year round concern. Permits are required for pool installation and barrier inspection is part of the final approval process.
