McKinney requires a garage sale permit for residential sales under Code of Ordinances Chapter 110. Residents are limited to 3 sales per calendar year, each no longer than 3 consecutive days.
Permits are free but must be obtained from the city before the sale. Sales hours limited to 8 AM to 8 PM. Only household items belonging to the resident may be sold. Commercial or consignment merchandise is prohibited. Signs are restricted (see sign rules). HOAs in Craig Ranch and Stonebridge Ranch may impose additional restrictions.
Unpermitted sale: 100 to 500 dollar citation. Exceeding 3 sales per year: 500 dollar fine.
