Cobb County requires trash and recycling carts to be stored out of public right-of-way view between collection days. Set out no earlier than 6 PM evening before pickup and retrieved by 6 AM day after. Cobb uses Republic/Waste Management or approved haulers.
Cobb County does not provide residential garbage collection as a county utility; service is provided by private haulers (Republic Services, Waste Management, Advanced Disposal, Waste Industries) contracted directly by homeowners. County Code Chapter 54 regulates storage and placement of containers. Residents must store trash and recycling containers behind a fence, in a garage, or on the side/rear of the house where they are screened from view from the public street between collection days. Containers may be placed at the curb no earlier than 6:00 PM the evening before scheduled collection and must be retrieved by 6:00 AM the day following collection. Containers must have tight-fitting lids and must not overflow. Cities within Cobb (Marietta, Smyrna, Kennesaw, Acworth, Powder Springs, Austell) provide their own municipal collection and have similar storage rules. Commercial dumpsters require full screening enclosures with gates per zoning. Bulky item collection typically requires scheduling and additional fees.
Warning for first offense. Cobb Code Enforcement fines under Β§54-35 typically $50 to $200 per occurrence. Repeat violations may escalate to Environmental Court citations. HOA rules may impose additional fines for non-compliance.
