Minneapolis provides garbage, recycling, and organics carts to 1-4 unit properties. Carts must be stored behind the front building line and returned from curbside by end of collection day.
Minneapolis provides black garbage carts, blue recycling carts, and green organics carts to eligible 1-4 unit properties. Carts must be stored behind the front building line, typically along the side or rear of the house or inside a garage, and not visible from the street between collections. Carts may be placed at the curb or alley no earlier than the evening before pickup and must be removed by the end of the collection day. Damaged or missing carts are replaced by the city. Overfilled carts with lids not fully closed may not be collected. Properties with 5 or more dwelling units use private haulers and must comply with screening requirements.
Carts left at the curb past collection day can result in Solid Waste notices and administrative fines. Overflow and contaminated loads may be refused. Unscreened dumpsters at larger properties are code violations.
