Rankin County Solid Waste Department contracts collection through Waste Management and Waste Pro for unincorporated areas. Residents must store bins behind the front building line or screened from street view between collection days per county solid waste ordinance. Bins placed curbside no earlier than 6 PM the day before collection; must be retrieved by 8 PM the collection day. Lids must remain closed. Overflow and loose debris prohibited. Burn barrels and open dumping are prohibited under MS Code 17-17-1 (Mississippi Solid Waste Disposal Act). Municipalities (Brandon, Pearl, Flowood, Richland, Florence, Pelahatchie) operate independent sanitation services with their own rules.
Warnings for first offense. Fines $25 to $100 per occurrence. Illegal dumping: MS Code 17-17-29 misdemeanor, $500 to $1,000 plus cleanup costs.
