Spring Hill, FL Property Maintenance: Trash Bin Storage (2026)

Spring Hill residential garbage, recycling, and yard-waste collection is performed for unincorporated Hernando County by Coastal Waste & Recycling, Inc. ((352) 540-6457) under a new County contract approved by the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners on May 13, 2025, effective January 2, 2026. Coastal Waste & Recycling received the highest overall evaluation score and the lowest-cost bid, replacing Republic Services, which had held the contract since 2012 and continued service through December 31, 2025. Service applies to all of unincorporated Hernando County (including Spring Hill); the City of Brooksville is excluded and runs its own collection. Service schedule for Spring Hill: (1) Garbage — twice per week; (2) Recycling — once per week (paper/cardboard in one bin; plastics, aluminum, and tin in another); (3) Yard waste — once per week (customer-provided containers; up to 12 bags or bundles, under 50 lbs each); (4) Bulk pickup — 6 collections per year, up to 10 items per pickup; (5) Holidays with no service — Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, and Fourth of July. Container rules: Coastal provides 95-gallon or 65-gallon two-wheeled blue garbage carts and recycling bins (~18–20 gallons, open-top) — residents may not substitute store-bought carts because the automated truck arms are calibrated for the provided equipment only. Total cart weight at the curb may not exceed 100 lbs. Prohibited items in the garbage cart include recycling, yard waste, red-bag medical waste, needles, hazardous waste, paint, chemicals, motor oil, and construction debris. Set-out timing: containers may be placed at the curb no earlier than 6:00 p.m. on the night before scheduled collection and must be set out by 6:00 a.m. on the collection day; carts must be positioned 3 feet from the roadway with handles facing the house, lids closed, with 3 feet of clearance from any obstacle and no overhead obstructions; carts must be removed from the curb by the end of the service day. Rates effective January 1, 2026: universal (mandatory) collection area — $217.37 per year, billed annually as a non-ad valorem assessment on the Hernando County tax bill; subscription area — $16.96 per month ($50.88 quarterly or $203.52 annually). Persistent violations of cart placement, set-out timing, or improper materials are enforced by Hernando County Code Enforcement (352-754-4056, option 5) and adjudicated by the Hernando County Special Magistrate under Chapter 10 and FS Chapter 162; fines up to $250 per day for a first violation and $500 per day for a repeat violation under FS 162.09.
