Lubbock County cannot set grass-height rules. In the City of Lubbock, uncultivated vegetation over eight inches high violates the nuisance weed ordinance, and owners must mow from the front curb to the middle of the alley within seven days of notice.
The City of Lubbock makes it unlawful to permit uncultivated grass or weeds to remain on any lot. Weeds are vegetation whose height is objectionable, unsightly or unsanitary; uncultivated vegetation over eight inches high is a violation. Owners must mow from the front curb of their property to the middle of the alley. In unincorporated Lubbock County the county cannot zone, but Health & Safety Code Chapter 343 covers weeds within 300 feet of a residence.
After a citation, owners have seven days to mow. If they don't, the Codes Department contracts the mowing and charges the owner the cost plus a $200 administrative fee; unpaid charges become a lien.
