City of Lubbock STR owners must register through the city's third-party site, Deckard Technologies, and renew each calendar year. Registration carries a $100 annual fee, currently waived through January 30, 2026. Unincorporated Lubbock County has no formal STR registration process.
The City of Lubbock contracts with Deckard Technologies to run STR registration through the Rentalscape portal. Applicants supply all owners, operators and agents with contact details, plus a 24-hour contact person, and pay the fee by card or a fee-free pay-by-check option. Permits are valid for the calendar year and must be renewed at or before expiration. A return must be filed even if no revenue is reported. The City began requiring registration on January 1, 2020. Lubbock County confirms it "does not have a formal registration process at this time" but still requires HOT payment (venuetax@lubbockcounty.gov).
Failure to register is a Class "C" misdemeanor, fined up to $2,000 per day; continued noncompliance triggers enforcement action and accruing tax penalties.
