Height limits are set by city, not the county. Blaine caps grass and weeds at six inches; Coon Rapids requires grass and weeds under eight inches from May 1 to September 30. Native prairie lawns can be exempt with approval.
Because most Anoka County residents live in cities, grass-height enforcement is municipal. Blaine (BCO 90-31 to 90-37) makes weeds or grass over six inches, or gone to seed, on any platted lot or outlot a violation, exempting City-approved native prairie lawns. Coon Rapids (City Code 8-500) requires grass and weeds be maintained under eight inches, with the enforcement season running May 1 through September 30. Separately, Minn. Stat. 18.78 requires all landowners to control noxious weeds under county inspector orders. Check your specific city, as height limits and exemptions vary.
Cities issue a notice to mow; if ignored, the city mows the lot and assesses the cost, plus an administrative fee, to the owner's property taxes.
