Under Chapter 40, Sec. 3:15, owners must keep the lawn extension covered with grass no taller than 12 inches or cultivated herbaceous plants no taller than 36 inches. Intentional native/cultivated planting beds are exempt from the 12-inch cap. Sight-triangle vegetation at intersections may not exceed 30 inches. Enforcement is by notice, then city abatement (mowing) plus fees billed to the owner.
Civil infraction: not less than $100 first offense, $250 second, $500-plus for subsequent within two years, max $1,000, each day separate; plus mowing costs and a $50 fee.
