Tenants who refuse to vacate can be served a three-day notice to quit and then sued in forcible-entry-and-detainer court. Local nonprofits assist with rapid rehousing but the eviction itself remains a private legal matter.
A no-fault notice that is too short, improperly served, retaliatory, or discriminatory can be challenged in court and may delay or defeat the eviction.
