Sioux Falls Code Β§150.177 (Rental Housing, Chapter 150) requires every owner of a residential rental unit to hold a valid city permit prior to allowing occupancy or advertising for rent. The permit application must include the owner's name, mailing address, phone number, property address, and number of units. Owners residing more than 50 miles from Sioux Falls must designate a local contact authorized to order repairs. Applicants must complete a minimum of 2 hours of director-approved training; this is waived if the property is managed by a licensed broker or property manager.
