Cities like Austin and Portland require landlords to fund moving costs when displacing tenants for owner move-in, demolition, or major rehab. Texas does not impose this obligation, and Bexar County has not adopted relocation assistance for unincorporated tenants. Tenants displaced by foreclosure, code-condemned conditions, or sale of the property generally receive only what their lease guarantees plus return of any security deposit under Texas Property Code 92.103. Some federally subsidized Section 8 voucher holders may receive HUD relocation benefits under the Uniform Relocation Act if displaced by federally funded actions, but this is rare in private market scenarios.
No local penalties. Wrongful eviction without proper notice can trigger Texas Property Code 24 remedies, including treble damages for unlawful lockouts under section 92.0081.
