Miami-Dade County's Human Rights Ordinance, Chapter 11A, was amended in 2019 to add source of income as a protected class for housing. Landlords with three or more rental units cannot refuse applicants because they pay rent through Section 8 vouchers, VASH, SSI, SSDI, child support, or other lawful sources. The ordinance applies to advertising, tenant screening, lease terms, and renewal decisions. Complaints go to the Miami-Dade Commission on Human Rights, which can mediate, investigate, and refer to the County Attorney for enforcement.
